March 19 2008 Antiwar Protest in
Washington DC
Washington DC activist Eric Sheptock raises a fist against the fascist
regime.
Eric Sheptock writes:
March 19th marked the
beginning of the sixth year of the Iraq
War. As stated in my August 1st, 2007 article, it was the unjust aspect
of this war that brought me to D.C. to begin with. While I've lent my
voice, time and energy alongside literal hundreds of thousands of
Americans and foreigners in an effort to end this war, the atrocities
of the Bush regime continue, with no end in sight. The handling of
anti-war protesters by the police stands as a testament to that fact.
The war protest began, as scheduled, at 7:30 AM in McPherson Park.
A much larger one had been scheduled by UFPJ (United For Peace and
Justice) but was cancelled so that it wouldn't conflict with and draw
participants from an event being held by IVAW (Iraq Veterans Against
the War). I was there within 10 minutes of the start time.
The MC
announced that a contingent was gathering in Franklin Park, just two
blocks away. So, I went back there and spoke with Erica, an
acquaintance and participant of the DC Statehood-Green Party contigent.
I told her the story of what is going on with Franklin School Shelter.
Then, I returned to McPherson Park where I ran across a long-time
friend and fellow Bush Regime protester Eric Anderson. Having not eaten
breakfast yet, I attempted to leave and do that. However, I got caught
up speaking with Kate at the FCNL (Friends' Committee on National
Legislation) table. About fiftyeen minutes later, I was able to pull
myself away from the protest and go to DPHW (Dinner Program for
Homeless Women) for breakfast. In the midst of all of the action, I
needed to take time out to be homeless. So I left the action at 8:45 AM.
When I returned at 10:45, the crowd had grown considerably. There were
at least 200 people in McPherson and many more spread throughout K and
L streets between 13th and 17th. I encountered
a Green Party friend
named Jane and the two of us would end up walking together to several
anti-war demonstrations throughout Northwest D.C. over the next hour
and a half.
At 13th and L we encountered
my long-time friends, the ladies of Code Pink -- women for peace.
(Desiree Fairooz of Code Pink was plastered all over the news several
months ago as she held her red-painted hands near the face of
Condoleezza Rice while shouting her disagreement with this unjust war.)
Members of Code Pink were rolling a bed with a canopy that read "Wake
up America. Time to end war." Since Medea Benjamin wasn't feeling well
anyway, she had the honors of lying in it.
As Jane and I returned to McPherson (the staging area for the protest),
we ran across SDS (the Students for a Democratic Society) at 14th and
K. Dozens of them managed to block the intersection
for approximately
20 minutes before it was broken up by the cops. Unfortunately, Jane and
I arrived only about two minutes before the cops.
Once
back at McPherson, I was able to get some mic time and perform my
song,"Bush Has Gotta Go", which I also sang on WPFW 89.3 on March 15th
of last year. Then it was on to the White House for us. As we reached
the northern edge of Lafayette Park, we met Elaine of World can't
Wait--Drive Out The Bush Regime. WCW (World Can't Wait, as we call it
for short) is the organization that I was working with when I wrote
that song.
Elaine had dozens of graphic pictures of maimed and dead Iraqi
civilians as well as photos of the notorious
degradations of Iraqi
POW's at the Abu Ghraib Prison spread out on the ground along
the H
Street side of Lafayette. Three others in her contingent were dressed
in orange jump suits with black hoods on, so as to show what it is like
to be an iraqi POW who's been caught by U.S. forces. Shortly after we
arrived, so did the park service. As it turned out, she was not located
in the part of the park for which she had been given a permit. Several
of us helped her move. Shortly thereafter, I walked Jane back to
McPherson, where it was now her turn to man the info tent in the
staging area. Along the way, I encountered my fellow activist and
photographer Isis.
Isis and I returned to the
White House. It was at this time
(approx. 12:30 PM) that the real action began. We saw a crowd gathering
near the fence on the north side of the White House and approached to
see what was going down. As it turned out, our friend Elaine was being
arrested, apparently for attempting to tie "Crime Scene" police tape to
the White House fence. (The police were making their own rule. It is
legal to tie ribbons to the fence of the White House, as long as the
person removes it before leaving.)
A couple hundred people, myself included, began following the police
toward the paddy wagon while shouting at them to let her go. About a
dozen cops were escorting her to the vehicle on foot. As the crowd
encircled the officers who were on foot, the mounted police rode up
from the rear on their horses. They caused their horses to dance back
and forth and side to side, in an effort to back people away from the
officers who were putting Elaine into the paddy wagon at this point. I
then witnessed a helmeted cop approaching a group of protesters from
the rear and then running sideways and pushing people to the left and
to the right with his forearms. The purpose appeared to me to be so
that he could keep them from startling the horses.
When this incident
was all over, I had shouted for at least 15 minutes at the top of my
lungs and would remain extremely hoarse for several
days thereafter.
At one point, my friend Isis came darting out from among the dancing
horses and grabbed hold of me, in utter fear of being trampled
by them.
Having lost that battle and my voice in the process, I walked with her
to 17th and K, where SDS was blocking the intersection, this time with
hundreds of other protesters. At one point, I witnessed about 2 dozen
cops approaching the intersection from the north. I turned my back for
a moment and when I looked again, they were retreating.
Something had
spooked them, possibly the size and determination of the crowd. This
time the cops allowed us to block the intersection for about 2 hours,
as they re-routed traffic. It had been drizzling off and on all
morning. By 1 PM, the rain was coming down rather steadily.
Nonetheless, we protesters remained in the rain for a good cause, some
of them sitting in the middle of the road, as they got rained on. It
was during this time that Isis informed me that the cops had been
repeatedly touching her breast while doing crowd control. Once again,
MPD was crossing the line, while trying to keep others from doing the
same.
Finally, at about 3, we ended the road block. I returned to the tent at
McPherson, where several disposable cartons of coffee were on display
for those who wanted something with which to warm up. There were also
some snacks. I took advantage of both. As I stood in this 30 ft.
diameter dome tent in an attempt to warm up, I ran across an older lady
that I'd met at a previous protest. I discussed the Franklin issue with
her. She was so impressed with my work that she gave me $25. I needed
it. It was a beautiful ending to a hectic day. Then it was back to
Franklin School Shelter. Time to be homeless.....again.
I've been called a fool for hitch-hiking here from Florida to protest
the Bush regime. the anti-war protesters are regularly referred to as
fools by the war supporters. Those who celebrated the new year on April
1st have been called fools for it. However, in my opinion,
the chief
fool was re-elected [sic] by about 60 million of his faithful
followers
in November of 2004. Not only did he begin an intractable war
which is
predicated on lies for one of the most foolish reasons. He began it on
March 19th, 2003, about 2 weeks before the day that bears his name --
April Fool's Day. Let's end all of this foolish discussion
with a wise
statement: "Beginning a war out of fear of nukes is like
committing
suicide out of fear of death." Eric Sheptock,

says Israel planted nuclear 'moles' in the USA
The Sunday Times
reports that
Edmonds, whose whistleblowing efforts have been studiously ignored by
what passes for the news media in American news media, approached the
Rupert Murdoch-owned British paper a month ago after reading a report
there that an Al-Qaeda leader had been training some of the 9-11
hijackers at a base in Turkey, a US NATO alley, under the noses of the
Turkish military.
Edmonds, who was recruited
by the FBI after 9-11
because of her Turkish and Farsi language skills, has long been
claiming that in her FBI job of covertly monitoring conversations
between Turkish, Israeli, Persian and other foreign agents and US
contacts, including a backlog of untranslated tapes dating back to
1997, she had heard evidence of "money laundering, drug imports and
attempts to acquire nuclear and conventional weapons technology." But
the Turkish training for 9-11 rang more alarm bells and made her decide
that talking behind closed doors to Congress or the FBI was not enough.
She had to go public.
"The
Times article then
notes something that I reported
18 months ago. Immediately after 911, the FBI arrested a bunch of
people suspected of being involved with the attacks –
including four associates of key targets of FBI's counterintelligence
operations. Sibel heard the targets tell Marc Grossman: 'We need to get
them out of the U.S. because we can't afford for them to spill the
beans.' Grossman duly facilitated their release from jail and the
suspects immediately left the country without further investigation or
interrogation.
"Let
me repeat
that for emphasis: The #3 guy at the
State Dept. facilitated the immediate release of 911 suspects at the
request of targets of the FBI's investigation."
Corruption
and a massive
cover-up organized at the highest
levels of government – America's nuclear secrets and
technology looted on a massive scale, and sold to our enemies via a
network set up by our alleged foreign "friends,"
while the threat of nuclear terrorism hangs over our country like a
thick fog of fear, and warmongering
politicians scare us into going along with the program
– if even half of what Edmonds alleges turns out to be true,
then we are all in some very big trouble.
